Ron Paul at UNC Carmichael Auditorium 3:30pm Friday - CONFIRMED

All set.  Ron Paul will speak at UNC's Carmichael Auditorium this Friday 3:30 - 4:40 pm.

There will be a press availability session from 3:00 to 3:30pm in an auditorium press room.

Those claiming they are on their way exceeded 1200 yesterday morning.  We figure the 8000 seat Carmichael Auditorium ought to cover things - but who knows?  Don't be late for the revolution.

Dear Champions of Liberty coming to see Ron Paul at UNC on May 2,

I am absolutely floored right now. You see, when we put together this event, we thought that we would be lucky to get 200, maybe 300, people to show up, hence why I booked the largest lecture hall on campus, Carroll Hall, with a capacity of 425. That capacity filled in RSVPs in less than 3 days. We now currently have 932 people RSVPed to come see Ron. That is absolutely amazing news! Amazing, both because of the number of people and because of the amazing effort I am going to have to pull off in order to get a venue that will hold this many people. As I already set a limit of 1,000 people for the event, I have today raised this limit to 1,400 people. But don't let limits deter you: come as you may!

In any event, please be checking your emails every night this week. I will be sending another email soon detailing where the event will be moved to on campus and probably another to go over more event details.

Thank you to everyone who is committing your time, energy, and money to coming to see Ron. This is going to be an amazing event: I can just feel it!

For Liberty,

Paige Michael-Shetley

Chairman, UNC Students for Ron Paul

Local school board can't do the math

Old news but a good day to talk about it -- if you're not heavy in the stock market.

Hello?  A half a billion dollars of bonds for school buildings?

Apparently, too many people on the Guilford County school board missed the news about collapsing credit markets.

You are broke, the taxpayers are broke and the financial houses of China and Japan no longer see the point of continuing to underwrite our ongoing lifestyles.

The Guilford County Board of Commission should not agree to hand uninformed voters the bond knife yet one more time to cut their throats with.  As leaders, they need to learn to say, "NO."

Citizens are going to have to learn to live with a generation of young people that will be taught basic critical thinking and communication skills in old buildings.  Debtors don't make the rules.  Nobody wants our county and municipal debt...not at anything close to current rates anyway.  Sorry.

BTW: Local and State governments are going to have to reserve what bond options they have left just to raise money to cover government employee retirement checks they are underwater on.

New Year's Resolution - More Blogging

I have been so busy elsewhere on the web my poor little blog has been left wanting.

Santiagoicecream_2Planning and execution of an end of year trip to Chile also cut into my time calendar.

I promise to do better for 2008!

Confederate Apologist to Speak at Guilford Tech

In case, like I did, you missed the GTCC press release of Oct 29th, Clint Johnson, author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to the South, will speak at noon in the Koury auditorium on the Jamestown campus.

I have it on good authority that Johnson's heart is is good condition and that he is more than ready if the News and Record tries to smear his talk as a Death to the Liberal, Northern, Victor View of the South rally.

Why America is Still Better

Findland just doesn't match the caliber of teachers born in or attracted to the USA:

Kim Kiuru, a teacher, said the principal announced over the public address system just before noon that all students should remain in their classrooms.

"After that I saw the gunman running with what appeared to be a small-caliber handgun in his hand through the doors toward me, after which I escaped to the corridor downstairs and ran in the opposite direction," Kiuru told reporters.

He said he saw a woman's body as he fled the building.

"Then my pupils shouted at me out of the windows to ask what they should do and I told them to jump out of the windows ... and all my pupils were saved," Kiuru said.

Charlotte Observer spikes BoA layoff news? - Updated

Updated: Well, I guess I have to write a retraction.  The news cycle on this one was apparently only one day.  My googling and I missed it.  Here is some of the Charlotte Observer coverage 1, 2, 3, 4 stories. (supplied courtesty of this gentleman)

Latest example of a corporate newsletter masquerading as a newspaper...

Charlotte's most prominent employer, Bank of America announced on Friday afternoon the layoff of 700 people as it closes down its wholesale mortgage business.  You would think that the announcement and reaction to it might at least make for an honorable mention in the Monday edition for Charlotte's paper of record.  But you would be wrong.

This is a non-story for the BoA cheer-leading department at the Charlotte Observer.  The lead photo story in today's on-line version is captioned, "2nd half fizzle dooms Panthers."    The the lead story in the business section covers the critically important update on what the new Bobcat basketball arena might be named.

Interestingly, the business section front page does have a story titled, " Another bad week for mortgage industry".  The story makes no mention however of the BoA layoff announcement.

You can also check the Charlotte Observer's banking news desk run by their crack team of investigative journalists.   No details there either.

If you want to know the latest on what is going on at Charlotte's most powerful employer and newspaper advertiser, try the Boston or Chicago papers.

BTW: If you are in the market for a home mortgage this move by Americas second largest bank just might affect you.

Cone of Silence over Middle East debate

That Americans are not going to get the whole story out of Iraq is a given, but you would think we would be allowed better out of Israel.
